St Georgenberg Abbey is among Tirol’s oldest and most revered pilgrimage sites. The mountain monastery is reached via a medieval bridge from Fiecht. A highlight of any active cultural holiday, the route through the dramatic Wolfsklamm gorge – with its waterfalls, stairways and wooden footbridges – offers a memorable hike to this spiritual landmark.

Schwaz Silver Mine

Once the largest silver mine in the world, the Schwaz Silver Mine played a key role in building the wealth of the Habsburg Empire. Today, visitors can travel 800m underground aboard a mine train to explore the historic Sigmund-Erbstollen tunnel – offering a vivid insight into the world of medieval mining.

Hall in Tirol & Historic Mint

Not far from Schwaz lies the historic salt-mining town of Hall in Tirol – a medieval trading hub famed for its salt and silver. Hasegg Castle is home to the Hall Mint Museum, where the thaler was first minted – the coin that later inspired the dollar. Explore original minting machines and climb the striking mint tower.
