In Tirol, Easter traditionally begins with the blessing of food on Holy Saturday or during the early Easter Sunday mass. The so-called ‘Easter basket’ contains Easter ham, eggs, lamb and traditional sweet Easter bread, complemented by salt and horseradish. The blessed foods are then served on the festively laid family table on Easter Sunday. These dishes, marking the end of Lent and the beginning of spring, also carry symbolic meaning:
