History with Heart and Soul
For over 400 years, Schloss Mitterhart has shaped the culture and landscape of Vomp and Schwaz. The milestones below trace the estate’s journey – from its origins as a 17th-century noble residence to the present-day Schlosshotel Mitterhart. Run by the Mair family, the castle has been home to six generations of tradition, hospitality and refined cuisine.
Schloss Mitterhart was built between 1615 and 1620 by Knight Hieronymus von Stauber. Following his death, the estate was inherited by his grandson, Konstantin Imhoff von Spielberg, and later passed to the latter’s daughter, Maria Regina, who married into the noble Fieger von Hirschberg family.
Around 1700, the Fiegers transformed the manor into a palace-like residence – a renovation that significantly shaped the castle’s architectural character.
Following the extinction of the Fieger family line, Johann Gwercher from Matrei am Brenner purchased the estate in 1802. He is credited with giving it the name Gwercher Schlössl – a name still affectionately used today.
In 1873, the property came into the possession of the Mayr family.
The castle has been managed by the Mair family as both a working farm and guest house – now in its sixth generation, under the historic name Schloss Mitterhart.
The old Gwercher Hof on the castle grounds – once a residence, stable and barn – underwent extensive renovation in 2024 and 2025 and was transformed into a modern estate lodge: the Land(heart). Now home to 28 stylish rooms and suites, a hotel reception, lounge bar and seminar room, the new lodge marks a significant evolution. With this addition, Schloss Mitterhart has grown into a true Schlosshotel – where historical character, Alpine charm and contemporary comfort come together in perfect harmony. A place for nature lovers, culture seekers, indulgent holidaymakers and business travellers alike.
